A Magnitude 9.1 earthquake occurred off the west coast of Northern Sumatra on December 26th, 2004 triggering a tsunami. This was the fourth largest earthquake in the world. More than 157,577 people were killed and 26,763 are still listed as missing in South Asia and East Africa. This tsunami caused more casualties than any other in recorded history.
